Watch Irish People Taste American Junk Food for the First Time

‘I don’t think anything that blue could be nutritious.’

September 27, 2014

Just in case obesity rates and peer-reviewed studies haven’t persuaded you to cut down on junk food, here’s a video that might.

A design agency based in Dublin asked a group of young people try America’s favorite snacks. The result? An amusing but mortifying look at the sugary foods most American kids grow up eating.

From Twinkies (“Does it feel real?” “No.”) to Kool-Aid (“Add one cup of sugar? No way!”), the snacks—familiar in the United States—baffle the hesitant Irish subjects.

The video brings to mind the power of early eating habits. What you consider a nostalgic childhood treat could be repulsive, based on sheer sugar content, to others.

Studies show that kids as young as three develop preferences about popular food brands. Recently, researchers from the University of Oregon, Michigan State University, and Ann Arbor Public Schools Preschool and Family Center found that obesity is more likely among children who have higher brand recognition.

Thanks to health campaigns, including First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move initiative and even videos like this one, obesity awareness has increased. Obesity rates among two- to five-year-olds in the U.S. dropped from 14 percent in 2003–2004 to 8 percent in 2011–2012.

The food industry is taking note. Recently, the three largest beverage purveyors—Coco-Cola, PepsiCo, and the Dr Pepper Snapple Group—pledged to cut America’s calorie consumption by a fifth in the next 11 years.

7 Things to Know About Preventing a Leading Cause of Death in the US

Overdose is classified by the Centers for Disease Control as a national epidemic, surpassing even motor vehicle accidents to become the leading cause of injury death in the U.S., with 41,340 overdose deaths[3] in 2011. Each day, 113 people die from overdose in this country.

This mortality rate has increased 118 percent since 1999, escalating overdose to a national crisis. Of these deaths, 16,917 were related directly to opiate (opioid) pain medications, and many more were caused by other opiates, such as heroin, in combination with other classifications of substances such as benzodiazepines (anti-anxiety and sedative medications) and alcohol. In 2011 alone, approximately 1.4 million people were seen in emergency rooms for the misuse of pharmaceuticals.

Canadian beekeepers file lawsuit against Bayer, Syngenta over bee-killing neonicotinoids

by David Gutierrez, staff writer http://www.naturalnews.com/047058_neonicotinoids_colony_collapse_disorder_beekeepers.html

(NaturalNews) Canadian beekeepers have filed a class-action lawsuit against two pesticide manufacturers, seeking $400 million in damages for the devastating effects of the neonicotinoid pesticides that have been linked to the destruction of honeybee colonies.

„The goal is to stop the use of the neonicotinoids to stop the harm to the bees and the beekeepers,“ said Paula Lombardi, a lawyer with Siskinds LLP, the law firm that is handling the case.

The lawsuit was filed in the Ontario Superior Court on September 2 by two of the largest honey producers in Ontario, Sun Parlor Honey Ltd. and Munro Honey. The next day, the Ontario Beekeepers Association publicly announced the lawsuit and invited other beekeepers to join in. By September 4, more than 30 beekeepers had already signed on.

Mob Mentality: The Science Behind Why It Happens: Sheeple behavior in humans now fully confirmed by science

Sheeple behavior in humans now fully confirmed by science

by J. D. Heyes

(NaturalNews) Is there really such a thing as a „sheeple“ mentality — a tendency by the vast majority of us to follow along mindlessly, and without resistance? Yes, according to a series of research projects over the past couple of years which concluded that following the crowd is a distinct human trait.

Writing for The Wall Street Journal, Luci Gutierrez compared the phenomenon to people who view a sporting event, like a football game:

Suddenly, 50,000 individuals became a single unit, almost a single mind, focused intently on what was happening on the field–that particular touchdown grab or dive into the end zone. Somehow, virtually simultaneously, each of those 50,000 people tuned into what the other 49,999 were looking at.

She notes that being part of a crowd can either be exhilarating, as in participating in…

Using Facebook could add you to the government’s ‚enemies of the state‘ list; use Diaspora instead

by J. D. Heyes

(NaturalNews) Social media giant Facebook may be the largest, wealthiest website on the face of the planet, but that doesn’t mean it’s a place where you should be. That is increasingly the case as the site becomes more intrusive on your privacy, more cold-hearted in its policies and harder on your wallet.

What’s more, there are alternatives — and one in particular that better serves your privacy needs and desires: Diaspora.

According to Dave Hodges of The Common Sense Show, merely participating on Facebook „could prove very dangerous to your future well-being.“ How so? He explains:

There is a reason that Facebook is aligned with both the CIA and the NSA. I have several credible sources tell me that all data posted on Facebook goes into series of cataloged files which culminates with each person being assigned a „Threat Matrix Score“. The mere existence of a Threat Matrix Score should send chills up and the collective spines of every American.

Hodges further notes that „[w]hen, not if,“ martial law is enacted in the United States, the Threat Matrix Score, which is compiled in part by using Facebook data to create an „‚enemies of the state‘ list,“ will substantially harm „your future longevity.“

„It is too late for people like Steve Quayle, Doug and Joe Hagmann, John B. Wells and myself to avoid being placed on this list,“ Hodges asserted in a blog post on his radio show site. „However, it is not too late for the average American to limit their exposure by NOT posting and participating on Facebook.“

This is not a ‚tongue in cheek‘ warning

„Facebook participation should come with a black box warning:“

WARNING: The views expressed on Facebook can and will be used against you. Participation in Facebook could prove detrimental to the length of your life. All political dissident views are immediately reported to the CIA and the NSA. Risk of repeated exposure on Facebook could result in you and your family being hauled out of their homes at 3AM, separated from your family and sent to a re-education camp.

Hodges claims that his warning is anything but „tongue in cheek,“ as he further asserts that the National Security Agency is already collecting data from the site on users.

Indeed, he says, many print and broadcast media journalists are beginning to rethink their association with the site (which, admittedly, does pull quite a bit of traffic for journalists).

„Several of our journalistic brothers and sisters have been censored and/or otherwise treated unprofessionally by this entity,“ wrote Hodges. „Facebook has become replete with trolls who patrol the cyber corridors of this monolithic entity chastising and censoring whoever exposes the liberal, anti-human, depopulation agenda of the New World Order.

„Whether it is gun control, criticism of NWO puppet Obama or anything that the alleged grandson of David Rockefeller, Mark Zuckerberg, and his people disagree with, they will kick your Facebook account to the curb for daring to express a legitimate political opinion,“ he wrote.

Masters of the universe

Facebook has certainly become erratic in what it „allows“ on user sites. Posts with pics for babies needing heart transplants are banned (until Facebook officials are shamed into allowing them), while saying nothing about two idiots who douse kittens with gasoline and light them on fire.

There is also the problem of Facebook being used by social scientists and researchers as test beds for altering human behavior, which the site recently admitted to doing.

And there is, of course, the assertion that the NSA and, no doubt, other intelligence agencies from other countries, collect Facebook user data constantly.

„Who appointed Mr. Zuckerberg to be the moral police and the judge of integrity?“ Hodges wrote. „It sounds like Zuckerberg can take his place with Soros, Gates, Turner, et al., and the rest of the global elite who think they have the right to treat humanity as their own personal property and view the masses as a disposable commodity.“

Masters of the universe tend to exert themselves in ways that are self-serving.

Diaspora, meanwhile, is a much better alternative. It is a decentralized, non-profit social media platform that is super-secure and operated entirely by volunteers. Check it out here: JoinDiaspora.com.
