Mississippi Executes Its Fourth Death Row Inmate Of 2012 Published by Jeffrey Hess on 05 Jun 2012 10:49pm Mississippi has executed its fourth death row inmate of the year. MPB’s Jeffrey Hess reports the state executed Henry Curtis Jackson who was convicted of the stabbing four of his nephews and nieces to death in 1990. “So I stand before you today and say, God is love. And I love my brother Curtis because of who he was not because of the man he became that night,” That’s Regina Jackson following the execution of her brother 47-year old Henry Curtis Jackson Tuesday night.

Jackson was the mother of two of the children stabbed to death and also survived five stabs wounds to her neck. In the days leading up to the execution, she asked the Governor to stay the execution and give her brother a life without parole sentence. “I believe in being punished but not the death penalty. God said in his word to forgive each other. And if we don’t forgive each other than god cannot forgive us. So let us come together as a nation with love towards sisters and brothers,” Jackson said. Jackson appeared to accept his execution calmly, having confessed to the murders of the children…all under 5 years old…earlier in the day Strapped to the gurney, Jackson kept his eyes closed in the minutes before his death; his breathing slow and steady.

When asked if he has any final words he only replied ‘no, I do not’….his eyes remained closed He took three deep shuttering breaths as the lethal injection chemicals entered his body…he was declared dead at 6:13 p.m. Corrections Commissioner Chris Epps says Jackson was solemn throughout the day, accepting responsibility for the crime. “Finally I just went on and asked him did drugs have anything to do with his crime. And he said ‘I am not going to blame it on drugs’. He said he went there to do one thing. And I did another.

And he admitted that he did commit the crime,” Epps said. This is the fourth execution of the year. The fifth execution is set for next week for death row inmate Jan Michael Brawner. 0 2 0Reddit0Fark0Email2ShareThis Images Regina Jackson.

37 AZ Inmates Have Died In Two Years of Violence, Mistreatment
Arizona‘s prison system has two death rows, says he Arizona Republic in the first in a series. One is made up of the 126 inmates officially sentenced to death. The other death row, the unofficial one, reaches into every prison in Arizona’s sprawling correctional system. No judge or jury condemned anyone in this group to death. They die as victims of prison violence, neglect, and mistreatment.

Over the past two years, this death row has claimed the lives of at least 37 inmates, more than five times the number executed from the official death row. Among them are mentally ill prisoners locked in solitary confinement who committed suicide, inmates who overdosed on drugs smuggled into prison, those with untreated medical conditions, and inmates murdered by other inmates. Correctional officers and other staff who work with inmates say many of these deaths are needless and preventable. Arizona will spend $1.1 billion this year to lock up its 40,000 prisoners.

Ohio Supreme Court Justice Pfeifer: ‘The day will come when Ohio no longer has the death penalty’

But as long as capital punishment remains in the state, Justice Paul Pfeifer favors the electric chair over lethal injection

  • When Justice Paul Pfeifer undertook a crusade to restore the death penalty in Ohio in the early 1980s, he was a state senator.  Now a state Supreme Court justice, Pfeifer wants to see it done away with altogether.

Alongside the family members of both murder victims and death row exonerees, Pfeifer testified before state legislators Wednesday in favor of House Bill 160, which would abolish the death penalty in Ohio. Afterward, Pfeifer told reporters at the Ohio Statehouse that Ohio’s death penalty policy no longer serves the state, and that capital punishment should be abolished.

Pfeifer noted that, while he has a duty to follow the law, he is also obligated to “step forward and advocate for changes that would lead to improvement.”
